At age 14, young Ron Rauert "founder" served a five-year shoe repair apprenticeship with master craftsman Mr. James Moy of Dimboola earning 15 shillings a week.
Ron was trained in all aspects of shoe repair and was even taught the art of making shoes from scratch.
At age 19 Ron summoned the courage and opened his own shoe repair business in Ballarat called "Swift Shoe Repairs" which he operated for 3 years.
In February 1950 Ron heard of greener pastures in Warrnambool and brought a shoe repair business at 102 Fairy Street.
Ron was renowned for putting in some long hours and the milkman often woke Ron up who was asleep at the bench.
Ron started putting in a few shoes and business was booming.
It was 1954 and a larger shop just up the street, 92 Fairy Street became available.
Ron added more and more shoes plus at the peak of repairs, employed 7 shoe repairers!
Expansion of Rauert's continued, in 1968 the store was doubled in size and the Famous "Uncle Ron's Train" was added.
Rauert's have had a simple Philosophy over the years:
- provide a bright and cheery environment
- provide a good shoe fitting expertise and knowledge.
- and good customer service.
Ron Rauert retired in 1996 after 50 years in the business and Ron's son Peter now runs the business.
Rauert's celebrated 60 years in 2006.
The team at Rauert's completely understand footwear and fitting, ensuring you not only get the shoes or boots that fit your feet correctly but also superb value for money every time!
